Darvon and Darvocet off the Market
Pain Medication Propoxyphene Withdrawn
If you use or have used propoxyphene, which is contained in Darvon compound and Darvocet N, this medication will no longer be available. Propoxyphene-containing drugs were banned in the UK in 2005, and came under increased US FDA scrutiny in 2009. Further studies required by the FDA revealed that standard therapeutic doses could cause cardiac arrhythmias. A 1972 study of analgesics published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that the pain-relieving power of propoxyphene was inferior to that of aspirin.
My personal experience with propoxyphene many years ago was that I got no pain relief, and only had side effects. Here's another story about the withdrawal of this analgesic medication.
